School History

The School of Allied Health Science was established at inauguration of the University of Phayao, which was elevated from a satellite campus of Naresuan University to an autonomous institution, as declared in the Royal Gazette on July 16, 2010. The former Academic School of Allied Health Science thus gained the entity equivalent to an academic faculty under the Phayao University Act.

Initially, the Phayao satellite campus of Naresuan University was officially called the “Phayao IT Campus”. The Academic School of Medical Science was a division of the campus, responsible for instructions of 3 academic programs: the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and the Bachelor of Public Health. Each program enrolled 100 students in the academic year 2007 (June, 2007).

On July 21, 2007, the Royal Decree for University of Phayao, officially delivering “University of Phayao”, took effect from 17 July 2010 onwards. The School of Allied Health Sciences was to be responsible for the instruction of 3 undergraduate degree programs which had formerly been administered by the School of Medical Science. The three programs were the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Public Health. The Academic School of Allied Health Sciences was to deliver another program in Sport Science and Technology. At inauguration, the Academic School of Allied Health Sciences housed 4 academic programs as mentioned earlier.

On December 1, 2008, Naresuan University transferred the Bachelor of Public Health to the Academic School of Medicine, shortly before the bachelor program in Sport Science and Technology was transferred to the Academic School of Medical Science. To date, the School of Allied Health Science provides 2 academic programs: the B.Sc. in Medical Technology and B.Sc. in Physical Therapy.
