PEA in partnership with University of Phayao launched Energy Efficiency Management Project at University of Phayao to install solar rooftop power generation system over 3 MW for green university
On November 18, 2022, Mr. Supachai Akeun, Provincial Electricity Authority Governor together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of University of Phayao presided over the opening ceremony of the "PEA-UP Solar Rooftop Project Kickoff", with phayao provincial government agencies such as Energy Offices, Industrial Offices, Forestry Centers, Municipal Office of Public Works Town participating in the ceremony and visiting the demonstration center and renewable energy learning resources at University of Phayao, Phayao Province.
The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) implemented an energy efficiency management project for University of Phayao by replacing the free space on the roofs of 13 buildings to install Solar Rooftop over 2.997 megawatts. They are support the university's ability to produce clean energy electricity for its own use, reducing the cost of electricity by approximately 3,000,000.- baht per year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,064 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and cultivating students to absorb the use of renewable or clean energy. PEA is an operator for surveying, designing and installing power generation systems, to maintaining and maintaining the system over 25 years.
PEA focuses on digital system to support energy efficiency by having a follow-up system or Energy Monitoring System that allows University of Phayao to track and read the electricity generating units from the Solar Rooftop system in real time and support the policies and targets for efficient reducing the use of electricity. This is in line with PEA's policy that focuses on promoting the use of renewable energy for the public sector. It is conforming to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports the UI Green Metric World University Ranking. University of Phayao is currently ranked 12th in Thailand and 171st in the world out of 956 universities worldwide.
