On 10 July 2026, Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D.President, University of Phayao, presided over the Sacred Water Blessing Ceremony for Phra That Chom Thong at Ang Luang Reservoir, University of Phayao. The ceremony marked the beginning of the annual Phra That Chom Thong Robe Procession Festival and was attended by university executives, staff, and students.
Participants collected water in ceremonial vessels for the Buddhist chanting ritual and the preparation of sacred bathing water for Phra That Chom Thong. This year's sacred water was gathered from eight significant water sources: the Ganges River in India, the Ping, Wang, Yom, Nan, and Mekong Rivers, Kwan Phayao Lake, and Ang Luang Reservoir at the University of Phayao. The water symbolizes purity, prosperity, and auspicious blessings.
The ceremony reflects the University's commitment to preserving Buddhism, safeguarding the rich cultural heritage of the Lanna region, and passing on the long-standing tradition of the Phra That Chom Thong Robe Procession to future generations.
