The School of Science, University of Phayao organized a workshop titled "Unshredded Leaf Composting and Science-Based Eco-Friendly Wet Waste Bins" under the project "Scaling Up the Comprehensive Organic Waste Management Model through Microbial Powder Innovation to Build a Low-Carbon Community (Mae Na Ruea–Mae Sai)." The project is led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Reungruthai Sirirak, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation, who serves as the project head.
The activity took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Community Hall of Mae Sai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mae Sai Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The event was honored by participation of faculty members, researchers, and staff from the School of Science, who served as speakers to share their knowledge, including:
P Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arrak Klinbumrung, Physics Program
P Dr. Niyom Hongsith, Physics Program
P Dr. Somrit Un-ai, Physics Program
P Asst. Prof. Dr. Sugunya Suebsan, Biology Program
P Dr. Kanta Sangwijit, Researcher
P Mr. Prajak Khatthi, General Administrative Officer
P Mrs. Sita Thianwan, General Administrative Officer
The project aims to expand the comprehensive organic waste management model from Mae Na Ruea Subdistrict to Mae Sai Subdistrict by transferring unshredded leaf composting technology, combined with straw mushroom cultivation, to reduce open burning and create added value from waste at both the household and community levels. The project also focuses on developing microbial powder innovation and establishing appropriate mechanisms for its use within the local context, with the goal of strengthening the community's capacity to independently and continuously manage organic waste processes.
This activity reflects the strong commitment of the School of Science, University of Phayao, to applying scientific knowledge to address environmental challenges at the community level, while also fostering collaboration between the university and local communities to drive tangible and sustainable development.
