The School of Engineering was established in 2002, initially the Academic School of Engineering, a division of the Phayao IT Campus. At the beginning, the school provided 5 bachelor degree programs in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering and industrial engineering. While resources were sufficient only for the 1st and 2nd academic year of the curriculums, the students had to enroll in courses at the Phitsanulok campus in their 3rd and 4th academic year.
Following the attempts to elevate the status of the IT Campus to the University of Phayao, the campus finally became independent from Naresuan University on July 16, 2010. As a consequence, the Academic School of Engineering became elevated to the School of Engineering on October 1, 2010, with status and entity equivalent to that of an academic faculty.
Today, the School of Engineering provides 4 undergraduate degree programs in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering and industrial engineering. Recently, the 2 graduate programs in construction management and civil engineering have been added to the curriculums.
