SCHOOL HISTORY

Naresuan University Phayao Campus was established according to the cabinet resolution dated 20 June 1995 that gave the green light to “Project for the Distribution of Education to the Regional Areas (Phayao Province) by Naresuan University”. On 8 October 1996, the cabinet resolved to change the campus name to Naresuan University Phayao Campus. The current location of the university is in Mae Ka Sub-district, Muang District, Phayao province. Naresuan University was granted permission from Ministry of Interior and Phayao province authorities to make use of the land as the university site, and in the year 2000 the university first offered programs of study related to science and technology in 3 divisions, namely Plant Science, Fisheries and Industrial Agriculture. These programs were managed by Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Naresuan University, and administered by the Academic School in Phayao Campus.

On 22 June 2001, the Academic School of Naresuan University Phayao Campus divided its administration into academic clusters of Information Technology, Liberal Arts, and Science and Technology. The operational responsibilities were distributed according to the programs of study under the charge of each cluster. The Science and Technology Academic Cluster was responsible for the administration of 3 programs: Plant Science, Fisheries and Industrial Agriculture. Students majoring in Industrial Agriculture were required to continue their third and fourth years of study at Naresuan University, Phitsanulok. In 2005, Naresuan University Phayao Campus started to offer programs in Chemistry and Biology, turning the total number of the Bachelor of Science programs under the responsibility of the Science and Technology Academic Cluster of Naresuan University Phayao Campus to 5 programs.

On 28 June 2004, Naresuan University Phayao Campus restructured its administration. This resulted in the new academic structure comprising Academic Schools of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Information and Communication Technology, Management and Information sciences, Health Sciences, Science and Technology, and Engineering. According to the Naresuan University Council resolution from the 114th meeting (4/2004) on 24 August 2004, the Academic School of Agriculture and Natural Resources was elevated to a work unit whose status was comparable to that of a department.

In the Academic Year 2009, the Academic School of Agriculture and Natural Resources offered 2 more programs, namely Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science) and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Crop Production. Starting from the Academic Year 2010, the Academic School of Agriculture and Natural Resources has conducted the instructions of all the courses for the students majoring in Industrial Agriculture (Year 1 to Year 4) at the site of Naresuan University Phayao Campus.

In the Academic Year 2010, Naresuan University Phayao Campus was elevated to the university status and the name was changed to “University of Phayao”. Consequently, the status of the Academic School of Agriculture and Natural Resources was likewise moved up to that comparable to a faculty, and the name was changed to “School of Agriculture and Natural Resources”.
