The University of Phayao (UP) is strengthening its efforts to turn research and innovation into real-world business opportunities through UP Innovation Day 2026, held on August 25–26, 2026, under the theme “Building the First Venture Pipeline for University Holding Company: From Research to Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurs.” The event was organized by the Innovation and Technology Transfer Institute (UPITI)

The event, opened by Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D.President, University of Phayao, brought together researchers, government agencies, private-sector partners, entrepreneurs and students to explore how university research can move beyond the laboratory and create value for society and the economy. The event also highlighted Phayao’s broader innovation vision, with Ms. Onarpa Lovera, Governor of Phayao, emphasizing the importance of combining local knowledge, creativity, technology and the province’s unique resources to create new economic opportunities and improve quality of life.

A key focus was building a “venture pipeline” that connects promising research with investment and business development. Student startups and researchers presented their innovations through pitching sessions, creating opportunities to receive feedback, build partnerships and prepare their ideas for future investment through the University Holding Company mechanism. The event also showcased research, social innovations and products developed through collaboration between the university and local communities.

The initiative reflects UP’s growing role in supporting innovation-driven entrepreneurship and technology transfer. By connecting research with investors, industry and communities, the university aims to increase the practical and economic value of its research while creating opportunities for students and researchers to become entrepreneurs. In the longer term, the venture pipeline is expected to contribute to a stronger regional innovation ecosystem and support Phayao’s development as a creative innovation city with sustainable economic growth.
