UP Empowers Community Health Workers to Support Healthy Ageing

Support Healthy Ageing

The University of Phayao (UP), through the School of Allied Health Sciences, is working with local communities to strengthen health support for older adults. On August 28, 2026, UP held a short-term Non-degree training program at Ban Jen Health Promoting Hospital, Phu Kam Yao District, Phayao, bringing together 30 village health volunteers and elderly caregivers from the community.

The training focused on practical skills for screening the overall health and abilities of older adults, including frailty, mental well-being, health literacy, and fall prevention. Participants also learned how to provide basic health advice and support appropriate exercise for older people, helping communities identify health risks and connect seniors with healthcare professionals when needed.

A key part of the program was hands-on use of a mobile-friendly web application for assessing, screening, and monitoring socially active older adults. Developed through UP’s 1 Faculty 1 SDG by AppTech Approach, the tool was tested directly with community health workers, allowing them to record information and provide feedback for further development.

By connecting university expertise, digital tools, and community health workers, UP is helping build a stronger local approach to healthy ageing. The initiative supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and highlights the university’s commitment to creating practical health solutions that can be used in communities.
