RACE Organizes Boiler Operation Workshop Promoting Sustainable Growth of Small-Scale Industries

RACE Organizes Boiler Operation Workshop Promoting Sustainable Growth of Small-Scale Industries

On July 21, 2025, the Engineering Research and Academic Services Center (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, organized a workshop titled “Boiler Operation Training” The event was held under the project “Improving the Efficiency of Community Liquor Distillation Systems through Engineering Technology Based on the Concept of Sustainable Development” The training took place at Kamnanded Community Liquor Distillation Enterprise, located in Lo Subdistrict, Chun District, Phayao Province.

The objective of the activity was to enhance knowledge and skills related to boiler operation for community enterprises. The event was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Erawin Thavorn, Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, who served as the project leader. Joining the event were Asst. Prof. Dr. Sutham Arun, Chair of the Master of Engineering Program in Mechanical Engineering, who served as the keynote speaker; Asst. Prof. Dr. Aphisak Witthayaprapakorn, Head of the Engineering Research and Academic Services Center; along with a team of researchers. Together, they visited the Kamnanded Community Liquor Distillation Enterprise (Kirikhan) to provide knowledge and hands-on training in boiler operation. The workshop was organized with the following objectives:

1. To transfer knowledge on the proper operation and maintenance of boilers.

2. To provide hands-on training to enhance practical skills for safe and efficient boiler usage.

3. To promote the active participation of the School’s personnel in community development and academic service.

In addition to advancing technology in the liquor production process, the project also aims to develop the community enterprise into a "Lifelong Learning Space" for legal and safe distilled liquor production. This initiative is intended to serve as a community learning hub and pave the way for becoming a provincial "soft power" asset in the future.

chool of Engineering plans to develop the Kamnanded Community Liquor Distillation Enterprise into a “Learning Space for Lifelong Learning with SDGs.” This model learning center will serve as a hub for legal and safe distilled liquor production, with the potential to become a unique “soft power” product representing Phayao Province. The initiative aims to open opportunities for nearby communities, interested organizations, and educational institutions to engage in learning, experience sharing, and capacity building.

This project stands as a testament to the successful application of engineering knowledge for targeted and sustainable local development. The School of Engineering, University of Phayao, remains committed to advancing innovation for the benefit of society—aligning with the university’s mission of being “Wisdom for Community Empowerment”

The project is also in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – focusing on the development of technologies that reduce energy consumption and improve energy system efficiency. (Primary SDG)

SDG 4: Quality Education – ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. (Secondary SDG)
