UP and Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Win Gold Medal at INOVA 2025 with Innovative “Dual-Action Quit Smoking Innovation: Targeting both Brain and Lungs with Fast-Disintegrating Tablets”



School of Pharmaceutical Sciences University of Phayao has once again brought pride to Thailand on the global stage by winning a prestigious award at “The 49th International Invention Show (INOVA 2025)”, held on 27 September 2025 in Zagreb, Republic of Croatia. This remarkable achievement is the result of a strong collaboration between the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, aimed at developing innovative healthcare solutions that address the needs of modern society.

The award-winning research project, titled “Dual-Action Quit Smoking In

novation: Targeting both Brain and Lungs with Fast-Disintegrating Tablets” was developed by a research team consisting of Asst. Prof. Dr. Maleeruk Utsintong from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Phayao,  Miss Theerathorn Sungrai, Pharmacist Professional Level and Dr. Tewan Thaneerat, Deputy Director-General from the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine.





The team was recently awarded two prestigious honors: the “Special Prizes on Stage” from the Corneliu Group Association in Romania, and the “Gold Medal” at INOVA 2025, one of Europe’s oldest and most renowned international invention and innovation competitions.

This achievement not only highlights the outstanding research and development capabilities of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine but also reinforces Thailand’s position as a global innovator in healthcare solutions. The innovative smoking cessation tablet combines pharmaceutical science with traditional Thai medicine, employing a dual-action mechanism that targets both the brain and lungs. The fast-dissolving oral tablet delivers active compounds quickly, increasing the effectiveness of smoking cessation and improving user compliance.




With the vision of becoming “a leading academic and research hub in pharmacy and cosmetic science in the ASEAN region by 2027,” the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Phayao, continues to demonstrate its dedication to developing impactful innovations that improve public health and enhance quality of life. This milestone underscores Thailand’s readiness and capability to advance pharmaceutical knowledge and bring Thai innovations to the international arena.
