UP Electrical Engineering in Collaboration with Hitachi Energy Enhances Student Competencies through Learning on Modern Protection Relay Systems

The Bachelor of Engineering Program in Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, led by Professor Dr. Chawasak Rakpenthai, Chair of the Doctor of Philosophy Program, and Associate Professor Dr. Jonglak Pahasa, Chair of the Master of Engineering Program, jointly organized a hands-on training workshop entitled “Protection Relays in Smart Grids” for third-year undergraduate students in Electrical Engineering. The workshop was held on 14 January 2026 at Electrical and Electronics Engineering Laboratory (EN 2301).

The primary objective of the activity was to strengthen students’ knowledge, conceptual understanding, and practical skills in modern power system protection principles, which constitute a critical body of knowledge aligned with the ongoing development of intelligent power systems, or Smart Grids. The program was honored by the participation of representatives from Hitachi Energy (Thailand) Limited, who served as guest lecturers and shared professional expertise and real-world industrial experience.

This activity represents a meaningful example of academic–industry collaboration aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning while preparing students with professional competencies essential for adapting to and keeping pace with rapid advancements in electrical power system technologies in the future.
