The School of Engineering, University of Phayao, participated in the “Workshop on Forest Carbon Sequestration Measurement” held from 24–25 March 2026 at Chuchat Kila-paeng Conference Room, Office of the President Building, University of Phayao. Mr. Kantaphong Suwannaphoj, Administrative Officer, attended the workshop as the School’s representative.
The program was organized by the Center for Environmental and Sustainable Management in collaboration with the School of Energy and Environment. It aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of methodologies for measuring and assessing carbon sequestration in forest ecosystems, which constitute a critical mechanism for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the impacts of climate change. The workshop was honored to have Dr. Nittaya Cha-un from the Carbon and Greenhouse Gas Management (CGM) Unit, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, as the keynote speaker, delivering both theoretical insights and practical guidance.
In addition to classroom-based learning, participants engaged in hands-on fieldwork at the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Project forest area, University of Phayao. The training included demonstrations on site selection, plot establishment, and systematic tree data collection within sampling plots. These data were subsequently utilized to estimate carbon storage in aboveground biomass. The acquired knowledge and practical skills are expected to be effectively applied in environmental management practices, thereby contributing to the advancement of sustainable development and the transition toward carbon neutrality.
