As healthcare systems continue to face increasing numbers of patients alongside limited medical personnel, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an important tool for improving the speed and accuracy of disease diagnosis, particularly in radiology, where medical image analysis requires both time and expertise.
“JIxSAW Health” is an AI-driven innovation developed by students from the University of Phayao. The platform was designed to assist in analyzing MRI images for the diagnosis and staging of bladder cancer. The project originated from a real challenge faced at the University of Phayao Hospital, where physicians spend significant time reviewing medical images for each patient.

To address this issue, the development team collaborated with academic advisors and medical specialists to create an AI system capable of supporting image analysis more efficiently. Rather than replacing doctors, the platform functions as an “intelligent assistant” that helps physicians make faster and more accurate clinical decisions while reducing patient waiting time and medical workload.
One of the key advantages of the system is its ability to process diagnostic data within seconds, compared to the several minutes often required for manual analysis. This allows physicians to prioritize urgent cases more effectively, improve treatment response time, and reduce fatigue caused by reviewing large numbers of medical images daily.
In addition, the AI system helps minimize errors that may result from human fatigue or differences in interpretation, making diagnostic processes more consistent and reliable. This is particularly beneficial for hospitals with limited numbers of specialists, where AI technologies can help improve the overall quality and efficiency of healthcare services.

Another strength of JIxSAW Health is its interdisciplinary approach, combining knowledge from data science, information technology, and medical science to develop a practical healthcare innovation. The project reflects how modern healthcare technologies require not only technical expertise, but also an understanding of real-world healthcare challenges and user needs.
The platform also has strong potential for future development. It could be expanded into hospital-based systems such as AI-assisted radiology support, preliminary patient screening tools, and integrated healthcare information systems. Furthermore, the technology could be adapted for the analysis of other diseases requiring medical imaging, including liver cancer, lung cancer, and neurological disorders.

The team also envisions developing the project into a comprehensive digital healthcare platform, incorporating features such as appointment reminder systems via LINE applications, healthcare chatbots, and patient follow-up systems. These developments could improve accessibility to healthcare services while enhancing hospital data management and operational efficiency.

Although the project began with a small team of university and high school students, JIxSAW Health successfully advanced to the national stage and received the First Runner-Up Award at the UBI-Alpha: Business Contest 2026. The achievement highlights the potential of Thai youth to create meaningful innovations that address real societal challenges.
More than just a technological project, JIxSAW Health represents a social innovation that demonstrates how interdisciplinary collaboration and emerging technologies can contribute to the future of Thailand’s healthcare system.
