University of Phayao Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, has successfully performed total hip replacement surgery using the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA), an internationally recognized minimally invasive technique that improves treatment outcomes for patients with hip osteoarthritis and other debilitating hip conditions.
The procedure was performed by Thitinan Tarathipayakul, M.D., an Orthopedic Surgeon at the University of Phayao Hospital and a Lecturer in the Department of Orthopedics, School of Medicine, University of Phayao. Unlike conventional techniques, the DAA approach accesses the hip joint through a natural space between muscles without cutting major muscles, resulting in less tissue damage, smaller incisions, reduced pain and blood loss, and significantly faster recovery.
This milestone reflects the hospital's commitment to advancing orthopedic care through modern medical technology and expert clinical practice. The DAA technique offers patients—particularly older adults and those with mobility limitations—an effective treatment option that enables earlier walking, quicker rehabilitation, and an improved quality of life while strengthening access to advanced healthcare services in Northern Thailand.
