The Bachelor of Engineering Programme in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering University of Phayao, led by Associate Professor Dr. Somboon Shaingchin, Programme Chair, in collaboration with senior Civil Engineering students, organised the "Civil Engineering Freshmen Welcome and Relationship-Building Activity 2026" on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at the Gear Space of the School of Engineering.
The programme was designed to facilitate the successful transition of first-year students into university life by fostering meaningful connections between senior and junior students while cultivating essential personal attributes, including kindness, responsibility, teamwork, and mutual respect.
The event featured a variety of interactive activities, including self-introductions, ice-breaking sessions, and team-building exercises that emphasised effective communication, collaborative problem-solving, critical thinking, and the development of trust among participants. In addition, senior students shared their academic experiences and insights into university life, providing first-year students with practical advice and responding to questions regarding their studies, campus life, and personal development. These sessions were intended to enhance students' confidence and readiness as they embark on their academic journey.
More than 160 students from the Civil Engineering Programme participated in the activity. Beyond helping first-year students adapt more smoothly to university life, the programme strengthened the bonds between senior and junior students, fostered a strong sense of pride and belonging within the programme, and contributed to the creation of a supportive, collaborative, and positive learning environment.
