Engineering Organises the Annual Buddhist Lent Candle Offering Ceremony to Preserve Buddhism and Thai Cultural Heritage

On 20 July 2026 School of Engineering University of Phayao, organised the Annual Buddhist Lent Candle Offering Ceremony at Wat Pa Sak Kham (Aranyawasi Temple), Tha Wang Thong Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The event was attended by the School's executives, laboratory instructors, and professional support staff, reflecting the School's commitment to preserving Buddhist traditions and Thailand's cultural heritage.

The ceremony commenced with the chanting of Chai Mongkhon Katha by the monastic community. Associate Professor Dr. Nattapong Damrongwiriyanupap, Dean of the School of Engineering and Chair of the Ceremony, then lit incense and candles in homage to the Triple Gem, requested the observance of the Five Precepts, and formally received the precepts from the monks. Subsequently, the School's administrators, academic staff, laboratory instructors, and personnel jointly presented the Buddhist Lent candles and traditional monastic requisites (Thai Tham) to the monks. The programme continued with a Dhamma sermon, a session of seated meditation and mindfulness practice, the monks' blessing, and concluded with a commemorative group photograph.

Recognising the importance of preserving Buddhism and safeguarding Thailand's cultural traditions, the School of Engineering organises this annual initiative to promote the conservation, revitalisation, and sustainable continuation of Thai arts, cultural heritage, and local wisdom. The project also seeks to preserve the longstanding traditions associated with the Buddhist Lent season while encouraging administrators, academic staff, laboratory instructors, and personnel to actively participate in religious activities. Furthermore, the programme aims to cultivate generosity, moral integrity, and ethical values, strengthen organisational unity and collegiality, and foster meaningful and enduring relationships between the University of Phayao and the local communities of Phayao Province.
