On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, School of Engineering University of Phayao, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Erawin Thavorn, Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services, together with School personnel, participated as representatives in the 2026 Buddhist Lent Candle Consecration and Offering Ceremony, organised by the Lanna Arts and Culture Centre, University of Phayao. The ceremony was held at Wat Dong Phra Chao and Wat Pa Phra Ubali, Phayao Province.
The ceremonial proceedings at both temples were presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Wuthichai Chairinkam, Vice President for Student Quality, University of Phayao. The religious rites included the lighting of incense and candles in homage to the Triple Gem, the observance of the Five Precepts, the recitation of the formal candle offering, and the presentation of Buddhist Lent candles together with monastic requisites to the Sangha as acts of Buddhist devotion and for the cultivation of auspiciousness. The ceremony concluded with the monks chanting sacred blessings (Chai Mongkhon Katha) and offering blessings to all participants.
The School of Engineering’s participation in this annual ceremony reflects its enduring commitment to the preservation and promotion of Thailand’s artistic and cultural heritage. By encouraging School members and staff to actively engage in significant cultural and religious traditions, the School contributes to the continuation of Thailand’s cherished customs while supporting the conservation, revitalisation, and sustainable development of local wisdom, Lanna arts, and cultural heritage through the University of Phayao’s ongoing cultural initiatives.
Furthermore, the ceremony reaffirmed the School’s dedication to preserving the longstanding tradition of the Buddhist Lent Candle Offering, an important observance during the annual Buddhist Lent (Khao Phansa) season. This revered tradition has been faithfully maintained for generations and continues to serve as a meaningful expression of Buddhist faith, communal harmony, and the enduring cultural identity of Thai society.
