The Department of Physics, School of Science, in collaboration with the Dark Sky UP Club, University of Phayao, led a team of school members and students in partnership with the Phayao Provincial Tourism and Sports Office to organize an astronomy outreach activity at the event "Following the Twin Moons, Weaving Dreams at Doi Bussarakham", held on August 28–29, 2026, at Wat Analayo Thipayaram (Doi Bussarakham), Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The event aimed to promote astronomical tourism (Dark Sky Tourism) and foster sustainable scientific learning within the community.
A major highlight of this event was the "Planetarium" operated by the Department of Physics, School of Science, which was made available free of charge to the public, students, schoolchildren, and tourists throughout the event. The planetarium drew overwhelming interest from attendees of all ages, who lined up to experience a simulated 360-degree view of astronomical phenomena inside the dome.
In addition, the team of students and school members from the Department of Physics, together with members of the Dark Sky UP Club, set up a "telescope" station, allowing attendees to closely observe the beauty and surface details of the moon. The team also organized activities to share knowledge about lunar phenomena, star-related folklore, and fundamental astronomy concepts in a friendly and approachable atmosphere.
This event represents a concrete integration of classroom knowledge into academic service for the community, in line with the mission of the School of Science, University of Phayao, to apply scientific knowledge for the benefit of society. It also reflects continued efforts to strengthen Phayao Province's potential in becoming a recognized "Dark Sky City" for sustainable astronomical tourism.
