The University of Phayao (UP) welcomed Dr. Wannee Nonsiri, Chief Inspector-General, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), and his delegation on September 3, 2026, as part of the ministry’s annual inspection programme. The visit focused on reviewing UP’s progress in key areas, particularly disaster preparedness, flood management, carbon neutrality and community-oriented innovation
UP presented updates on its Carbon Neutrality efforts, support for communities affected by flooding, and a flood disaster prevention and management project carried out in collaboration with MHESI agencies, local authorities and Mae Ka Subdistrict Municipality. The university also reported on the work of the MHESI Regional Office in Phayao, the Integrated Technology and Innovation Business Promotion Mechanism (ICP) for “Mae Chai GI Lychee,” and UP Innoshop, which connects university research with local entrepreneurs.
The delegation also visited key flood monitoring and early-warning facilities, including the water monitoring station in front of the university and Mae Ka Subdistrict Municipality. They reviewed the “Phayao Tan Jai” emergency alert system and the Phayao Smart Water website, developed jointly by UP and the municipality to support water monitoring, risk surveillance and timely alerts. The delegation also visited the meteorological and hydrological monitoring station at Kad Lai Ta in Mueang Phayao District.
The visit highlighted UP’s efforts to apply technology, data and innovation to disaster preparedness while strengthening cooperation with local partners. Feedback from the inspection will support further improvements in flood monitoring, emergency response and community-based disaster management.
