The University of Phayao’s School of Engineering participated in UP Innovation Day 2026, held under the theme “Building the First Venture Pipeline for University Holding Company: From Research to Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship” on 25 August 2026 at the Phaya Ngam Mueang Auditorium, University of Phayao. The event aimed to promote the translation of academic knowledge, research, and university-generated innovations into practical applications, commercial opportunities, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.
As part of the event, the UP-NEXUS Innovation Day 2026 exhibition featured a competition on innovative solutions to environmental challenges in Northern Thailand and the advancement of innovation-driven entrepreneurial concepts. The School of Engineering submitted the project “Energy-Efficient Textile Drying Innovation for Reducing Dampness and Musty Odours”, which received First Runner-Up. The award-winning innovation was developed by Ms. Thamon Pangtam, Ms. Wanwisa Kawichai, and Ms. Saengdao Khamlue, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Sutthinan Srirattayawong.
In addition, several members of the School of Engineering were recognized for their outstanding achievements in intellectual property protection applications. Associate Professor Dr. Nattapong Damrongwiriyanupap, Dean of the School of Engineering, was recognized on behalf of the School for having the highest number of intellectual property protection applications. Professor Dr. Chawasak Rakpenthai was recognized for having submitted the highest number of applications for invention patents, while Ms. Ratchaneewan Munsawaeng was recognized for having submitted the highest number of petty patent applications.
The School of Engineering also contributes to the 2026 Social Innovation Advancement Initiative, supported by the Social Innovation Development (SID) Fund for Fiscal Year 2026. One of the supported projects, entitled “Enhancing the Value of Community Cocoa through Smart Fermentation Systems and Digital Production Standards,” is led by Assistant Professor Dr. Sutham Arun of the University of Phayao’s School of Engineering in collaboration with Pongthayas Limited Partnership, Phayao Province. The project seeks to enhance the value and competitiveness of community-produced cocoa through the integration of smart fermentation technologies and digital production standards.
Participation in UP Innovation Day 2026 underscores the significant role of the University of Phayao’s School of Engineering in strengthening the university’s innovation ecosystem—from generating knowledge and advancing research, to protecting intellectual property, developing innovations to address environmental challenges, and translating research outputs into practical applications and innovation-driven enterprises.
These efforts represent an integrated pathway connecting “Research – Innovation – Entrepreneurship – Society”, serving as a key mechanism for transforming academic knowledge and research into tangible value, economic opportunities, and sustainable positive societal impact.
