The Division of Building and Facilities at the University of Phayao, through its Garden and Landscape Section, has planted Chinese timber bamboo ("Phai Sang") near the hazardous waste storage building at the University, opposite the sports field of the University of Phayao Demonstration School, in order to improve the surrounding environment and prepare the area for future beneficial use.
The project involved planting a total of 130 bamboo trees across four species: 50 Sang Mon bamboo, 30 sweet bamboo (Phai Wan), 30 Phai Liang bamboo, and 20 black Timor bamboo. The Garden and Landscape Section continues to plant and care for the bamboo trees to ensure healthy growth and provide shade for the surrounding area.
Bamboo is a highly versatile plant that can be used as a raw material, processed into various products, and utilized in different parts according to the characteristics and properties of each species. Because each species exhibits distinct growth patterns and characteristics, this planting serves as valuable source material for studying bamboo species, their care, and appropriate methods of use. Cultivating multiple species within the same area further facilitates comparative study of their individual characteristics and lays the groundwork for developing the site into a learning resource in the future.
This initiative reflects the university's ongoing commitment to developing and managing its land for appropriate and sustainable benefit. Beyond enhancing the landscape of the surrounding area, the bamboo planting project also prepares the site for development into a Bamboo Species Learning Center that will support education and related activities while promoting the continuous and sustainable use of land within the university.
