On 22 October 2026, Research and Academic Service Center of Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, in collaboration with Phayao Office for Skill Development, convened a meeting to discuss the implementation of the National Skill Standard Testing Programme for Indoor Electricians, Level 1. The meeting was held in Conference Room EN1104 at the School of Engineering and was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Erawin Thavorn, Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services; Professor Dr. Chawasak Rakpenthai, Chair of the Doctor of Philosophy Programme; and Assistant Professor Duangdi Saenrak, Chair of the Bachelor of Engineering Programme, together with academic staff and laboratory instructors from the Department of Electrical Engineering. The discussions focused on establishing collaborative strategies to strengthen students’ professional competencies in alignment with national skill standards and the evolving requirements of the industrial sector.

The initiative aims to enhance students’ technical proficiency and practical capabilities in response to labour market demands while ensuring that their knowledge and skills in electrical installation comply with the National Skill Standards. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating theoretical engineering knowledge with hands-on experience, enabling students to apply academic principles in authentic workplace settings and develop the competencies essential for professional practice upon graduation.

The National Skill Standard Test for Indoor Electricians, Level 1, serves as an important mechanism for assessing occupational competencies, encompassing fundamental technical knowledge, practical skills, and the ability to perform electrical installation tasks in accordance with prescribed standards. Participation in this assessment will enable students to evaluate their professional readiness, identify areas for further development, and enhance their prospects for career advancement. It will also help strengthen prospective employers’ confidence in their technical capabilities and professional competence.

Students who successfully pass the National Skill Standard Test will receive an official certificate confirming their achievement of the prescribed national skill standards. This certification provides formal evidence of their technical knowledge, practical proficiency, and occupational competencies. It can be presented to prospective employers as part of job applications, thereby enhancing graduates’ professional credibility, employability, and competitiveness in the labour market. Furthermore, the certification provides a foundation for progression towards more advanced competency levels and supports preparation for subsequent professional competency certification processes in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The meeting underscores the significant role of the Research and Academic Service Center for Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, in advancing academic services and engineering workforce development through strategic collaboration. By integrating academic expertise with nationally recognised occupational competency standards and strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and government agencies, the School seeks to enhance the quality and professional readiness of its graduates. This collaborative approach is expected to contribute to the development of a highly skilled engineering workforce capable of responding effectively and sustainably to the changing demands of the labour market and industrial sector.
