Organizes a Comprehensive Workshop on Counseling and Diagnostic Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections to Elevate Professional Competencies of Senior Students

The Medical Technology Program, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Phayao, organized a professional workshop entitled “Comprehensive Counseling and Diagnostic Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections” on Monday, 23 February 2026, at the Muang Phayao Conference Room, University of Phayao. The initiative was designed to enhance knowledge and strengthen professional competencies among fourth-year students in the Bachelor of Science (Medical Technology) program.

Held on 23 February 2026, the workshop aimed to prepare senior students with practical competencies in providing counseling and conducting laboratory analyses for the diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in a comprehensive and systematic manner. These competencies constitute essential professional skills stipulated within the learning outcomes of the Bachelor of Science program in Medical Technology.

The training program incorporated both didactic and practical components. During the lecture sessions, participants engaged with topics including “Laboratory Testing for the Diagnosis of Sexually Transmitted Infections” and “Pre- and Post-Test Counseling Guidelines for Sexually Transmitted Infections.” In the practical sessions, students participated in small-group activities involving case study analyses, structured discussions, and role-playing exercises that simulated real-world counseling scenarios before and after diagnostic testing. Faculty members provided close supervision and professional guidance throughout the activities.

The workshop was designed to holistically develop students’ intellectual competencies, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, interpersonal communication skills, and professional laboratory practices. Emphasis was placed on equipping students to perform effectively and responsibly in dual roles—as laboratory practitioners and as counselors—within the healthcare system.

This workshop exemplifies the steadfast commitment of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Phayao, to producing highly qualified medical technologists through experiential learning approaches that integrate academic knowledge with authentic professional practice. Such initiatives contribute to the cultivation of graduates who demonstrate advanced professional expertise, uphold rigorous ethical standards, and meet nationally and internationally recognized professional benchmarks.
