The University of Phayao (UP) celebrates its 16th anniversary with the exhibition “16 Good Stories: 16 Years of the University of Phayao towards Sustainability,” showcasing achievements and development outcomes driven by collaboration and a shared commitment to strengthening communities. The University observes July 17 each year as its anniversary of establishment. This year’s exhibition reflects 16 years of development under its guiding aspiration, “Wisdom for Strengthening Communities,” through the integration of teaching and learning, research, academic services, and arts and cultural preservation to create tangible benefits for communities, society, the economy, and the environment. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, Phayao Municipality, Phayao Provincial Police, the media, and community leaders.
Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, led university executives, staff, and students in opening the exhibition, highlighting UP’s journey “From One Classroom to a World-Class University.” The University’s growth has been driven by the collective efforts of its staff, students, alumni, partners, and the people of Phayao Province, symbolized by the Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula), the University’s symbolic tree, representing strong roots, growth, and hope for continued contributions to society.
The exhibition features “16 Good Stories” and “1 Faculty, 1 SDG,” showcasing outstanding achievements from faculties and university units. The exhibits demonstrate how education, research, academic services, and cultural preservation have generated positive social, economic, and environmental impacts in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The exhibitions are open to the public until August 31, 2026.
The 16th-anniversary exhibition goes beyond celebrating past achievements. It highlights the power of collaboration among the University, government, private sector, civil society, and local communities in creating tangible benefits and advancing innovation and knowledge. Through these partnerships, UP continues to strengthen communities and contribute to a sustainable future for Phayao, Thailand, and the global community.
