UP Ranked Joint 13th Among Thai Universities and in the 601+ in Asia in THE Asia University Rankings 2025
          Times Higher Education (THE), a renowned university ranking organization based in the United Kingdom, released the Asia University Rankings 2025 on April 23rd, 2025. This year, 20 Thai universities participated in the rankings out of 27 that submitted data. The ranking criteria consists of five main performance pillars and 17 underlying indicators. The five key pillars are: Research Quality (30%), Research Environment (28%), Teaching (24.5%), Industry Income (10%), and International Outlook (7.5%).


          According to the latest rankings, the University of Phayao has been placed in the 601+ range in Asia and is tied for 13th place among Thai universities. It shares this position with seven other institutions: Burapha University, Kasetsart University, Maejo University, Mahasarakham University, Naresuan University, Silpakorn University, and Srinakharinwirot University.




The University of Phayao’s performance in this year's ranking is reflected in the following five key indicators:


          • Research Environment: 12.2%

          • Teaching: 17.8%

          • Research Quality: 34%

          • Industry Income: 18.2%

          • International Outlook: 23.2%


          The University of Phayao has made significant progress, particularly in the Research Environment indicator. This improvement is a result of the university's efforts to increase both the quantity and quality of research. There has been an increase in academic publications in international journals, a diversification of research funding sources, and greater institutional support for scholarly activities. The Teaching indicator has also shown improvement, with enhancements in curriculum design, integration of modern technologies in teaching, support for interdisciplinary learning, and continuous faculty development. These advancements reflect the university's progress across multiple dimensions.

          The University of Phayao is classified as a Group 3 university, with a focus on the development of local and other communities. Its mission is to become a highly-regarded academic institution that produces well-qualified graduates and conducts impactful research. These efforts are aimed at supporting national development and providing practical benefits to communities and society, ultimately contributing to long-term sustainable growth.
