UP Joins the Opening of the Community-Based Bioeconomy Learning Center in Phayao
    



The University of Phayao joined the opening ceremony of the Community-Based Bioeconomy Learning Center at the Mae Ing Natural Dye Shibori Tie-Dye Community Enterprise, Phayao Province, on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. On behalf of Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, Associate Professor Dr. Direk Teeraphoothorn, Vice President for Corporate Communication, attended the ceremony and delivered a welcome address, together with representatives from government agencies, partner organizations, and local communities.


The establishment of the Community-Based Bioeconomy Learning Center aims to develop a model learning space for the sustainable utilization of local biological resources. The center integrates Academic Knowledge, Research & Innovation from the University of Phayao with Local Wisdom, particularly in Natural Dyeing and shibori tie-dye techniques. Its objective is to transfer practical knowledge, enhance vocational skills, add economic value to biological resources, and create Sustainable Income for local communities.


The center serves as a comprehensive learning hub covering the entire value chain, from the selection and development of local biological raw materials and Eco-Friendly Processes in natural dye extraction to Value-Added Products, product design reflecting community identity, quality improvement, branding, and community-based marketing. These activities will strengthen Community Enterprises while reducing chemical use and environmental impacts.




The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Tanit Changthaworn, Director of the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (Public Organization), who emphasized the role of knowledge, research, and innovation in adding value to biological resources and driving Grassroots Economy development. Ms. Aorapa Lohvira, Governor of Phayao Province, also expressed her congratulations and highlighted the center as an important model for sustainable livelihood development in the province.




The University of Phayao expects the Community-Based Bioeconomy Learning Center to become a key platform for knowledge exchange among universities, communities, and partner networks, contributing to the strengthening of the local economy while conserving biological resources and local wisdom in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
