On 20 September 2026, the Civil Engineering Program School of Engineering University of Phayao, led by Associate Professor Dr. Somboon Shaingchin, Chair of the Civil Engineering Program, organized the activity entitled “Internship and Cooperative Education Preparation: Fundamentals of Financial Management and Entrepreneurship” at CE10206, University of Phayao General Classroom Building. The activity aimed to strengthen essential knowledge and practical skills in financial management, accounting, taxation, and entrepreneurship among third- and fourth-year Civil Engineering students prior to their internships, cooperative education placements, and transition into professional careers after graduation.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ausanee Ratsamewongjan and Dr. Joompoth Sanitthangkul, lecturers and program chair in the Bachelor of Accountancy Program, School of Business and Communication Arts, University of Phayao, served as guest speakers and delivered practical knowledge closely connected to real-world professional contexts.
The morning session, entitled “First Job, Side Hustle, and Contractor” covered fundamental concepts in taxation, assessable income, personal income tax, withholding tax for individuals, value-added tax, and relevant case studies. The session was designed to help students develop a clear understanding of their tax obligations from the early stages of employment, freelance work, and independent contracting.
The subsequent session, “Growing Business and Entity Decision” focused on the transition from individual professional practice to business operations. Key topics included forms and types of business entities, corporate income tax, withholding tax for juristic persons, accounting responsibilities for entrepreneurs, working capital management, cash flow management, and principles of corporate governance. Case studies were also incorporated to enable students to apply financial and business concepts to future entrepreneurial and managerial decision-making.
This activity represents another important initiative to prepare Civil Engineering students with a broader set of competencies that extend beyond technical engineering knowledge. By strengthening their understanding of financial planning, taxation, accounting, and entrepreneurship, the program seeks to enhance students’ adaptability, professional readiness, and capacity to identify and create career opportunities in an increasingly dynamic and competitive world of work.
