School of Liberal Arts Congratulates Research Team on Launch of Trilingual Electronic Encyclopedia
The School of Liberal Arts, University of Phayao extends heartfelt congratulations to the research team behind the Trilingual Electronic Encyclopedia Project (Thai-English-Chinese), developed under the initiative "Innovative Project for the Development of a Multilingual Electronic Encyclopedia on Tourism and Local Products in the Maeka Municipality Area."
This project is part of the university’s “One School, One Innovative Community” initiative and aims to enhance local tourism data in preparation for the future Den Chai–Chiang Khong railway route. The project encompasses three core objectives:
1) To develop a multilingual (Thai-English-Chinese) electronic encyclopedia focused on tourism and local products in Maeka Municipality.
2) To create a trilingual tourism map and a cultural and sports calendar in Thai, English, and Chinese.
3) To train local youth as trilingual community tour guides.
The research employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology to ensure genuine community engagement in the development process. The project comprises three main activities:
1) Collecting local tourism information.
2) Developing the multilingual electronic encyclopedia and a tourism map application.
3) Conducting training sessions for youth tour guides.
The research involved two key community groups:
1) Maeka Municipality officials (3 participants)
2) Youth participants from Phayao Maeka Tokwak Kindergarten School (91 participants), located in Maenarua Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province.
Research tools included in-depth interviews and participatory data collection and management activities. The outcomes are expected to benefit the community by cultivating community innovators and establishing a local tourism database, ultimately promoting employment opportunities for both residents and youth.
The completed Trilingual Electronic Encyclopedia (Thai-English-Chinese) is now on display at the Language Center Room (CE14204). Students and all interested parties are invited to visit and explore the resource during official working hours.
