On Tuesday, 5 May 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongsbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, assigned Mr. Nattawut Somyaron, Assistant to the President of the University of Phayao, accompanied by Mr. Chalathon Thaveekul, Head of Safety and Security Section, Division of Buildings and Facilities, to attend the summary and follow-up meeting on the prevention and resolution of forest fires, haze, and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Phayao Province for the year B.E. 2568–2569, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, private sector organizations, and local administrative organizations. The meeting was held at Phu Kam Yao Meeting Room, 5th Floor, Phayao Provincial Hall, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province, and was organized by the Phayao Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command. On this occasion, Miss Onapha Lowiira, Governor of Phayao Province, assigned Mr. Somsak Kaewsena, Deputy Governor of Phayao Province, to preside over the meeting.
The meeting aimed to summarize and review the situation regarding forest fires, haze, and PM2.5 in Phayao Province. The province has continuously and intensively implemented preventive and corrective measures, alongside appeals for cooperation to refrain from open burning, and has closely monitored the situation, resulting in an overall improving trend. The meeting also included a summary of operational outcomes for the period from 14 February 2025 to 30 April 2026, as well as a review of obstacles and challenges, an exchange of opinions and recommendations to serve as guidelines for future implementation, consideration of the operational plan for the period of May–December 2026, and the drafting of an order to appoint a working group to drive the action plan for the year 2027.
Furthermore, the meeting included a joint discussion on approaches to preparedness for drought and flood situations in Phayao Province in 2026, with the aim of ensuring effective situation management and minimizing the impact on people in the area.
