University of Phayao’s School of Energy and Environment Promotes “Low-Carbon Khun Lao Coffee” for the Green Tourism Market

On September 4, 2026, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukthai Pongpattanasiri and a team of researchers from the School of Energy and Environment, University of Phayao, in collaboration with coffee growers from Khun Lao Community, Mae Chedi Mai Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province, showcased “Low-Carbon Coffee” at the “Driving New Steps in Tourism and Business Negotiations for Tourism Products and Services in the Upper Mekong Subregion” event, held at The Heritage Chiang Rai Hotel and Convention in Chiang Rai Province.

The activity was part of the project “Enhancing the Capacity of Highland Community Coffee Entrepreneurs in Phayao and Chiang Rai through Innovative Water Management and Value Addition across the Supply Chain,” supported by the Program Management Unit on Area-Based Development (PMU-A). The initiative aims to expand market opportunities for community coffee, connect low-carbon coffee products with tourism operators, and enhance the value of highland coffee as a sustainable product aligned with the green tourism market. The project also seeks to generate income for local communities while promoting natural resource conservation and reducing environmental impacts through sustainable development.
