On September 4, 2026, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sukthai Pongpattanasiri, lecturer and researcher at the School of Energy and Environment, University of Phayao, together with the project team of “Enhancing Hotel Business Management toward Net Zero Tourism,” collaborated with The Heritage Chiang Rai Hotel and Convention to design and implement a Carbon Event as part of the “Driving New Steps in Tourism and Business Negotiations for Tourism Products and Services in the Upper Mekong Subregion” event in Chiang Rai.
The initiative included the assessment and calculation of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the event, followed by carbon offsetting totaling 17.980 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e). This demonstrates the practical application of the Carbon Event concept to promote environmentally responsible event management and reduce climate impacts.
These marks another important step in supporting the hotel and tourism sectors in systematically managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while contributing to the transition toward Low-Carbon Tourism and Net Zero Tourism.
continues to transform knowledge and research into practical solutions tourism and a sustainable future.
