On September 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the School of Science, University of Phayao held an Emergency Plan Review and Simulation Exercise as part of its ongoing Laboratory Safety Enhancement Program. The main goal is to review decision-making processes, roles, and step-by-step procedures under the school's emergency response plan, basically making sure everyone knows exactly what to do if things go sideways in the lab!
More than 40 people showed up for this one, including administrators, faculty members, scientists, and office staff impressive turnout. The session was led by Acting Sub Lt. Kritsana Thanai-ma, a Professional Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Officer from Mae Puem Subdistrict Municipality, who brought his expertise to guide everyone through the simulation.
The activity was split into two main parts:
Held at the School of Science Meeting Room 1, this was a conceptual, discussion-based simulation where participants reviewed their roles, responsibilities, and decision-making steps according to the emergency plan all while sitting around a table (no running required for this part!).
This one took place at Lab SC4310 and the assembly point in front of Building 4. It was the hands-on portion where staff physically practiced evacuation steps and real emergency procedures to make sure the theory translates into action.
No chemicals, gas, fire, or actual injured people were involved in this simulation! The whole point was to sharpen everyone's critical thinking and communication skills as a team, not to stage a full-blown disaster movie.
This drill is a big step in building confidence and readiness among School of Science staff to handle potential lab emergencies covering everything from quick decision-making to smooth coordination and following safety protocols correctly and efficiently. Think of it as an investment in creating a lasting Safety Culture within the organization.
