On September 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the School of Science at the University of Phayao held a hands-on workshop on "Course Learning Outcomes and Assessment (CLO Formulation & Assessment)" as part of the school's Knowledge Management (KM Day) initiative. The session took place in Meeting Room 1, School of Science, and aimed to boost staff knowledge and skills in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), helping them apply these concepts to course design and improve teaching quality in a more systematic way.

This workshop is part of the school’s ongoing Knowledge Management (KM) efforts, which focus on sharing knowledge, exchanging best practices, and helping staff level up their skills, all to support better education quality that meets the needs of both students and future employers.

The workshop covered key topics through a mix of lectures and practical activities, including why Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) matter under the OBE framework, how to set CLOs, how to align CLOs with Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and how to design proper assessment methods to measure whether students are actually hitting those learning outcomes.

Participants also got to roll up their sleeves with CLO Clinic and Assessment Clinic activities, working individually, in pairs, and in groups to really get hands-on experience analyzing and developing CLOs, plus designing assessment tools that fit the intended learning outcomes.

This workshop gives staff practical tools they can use right away to create and review CLOs that are clear, measurable, and properly aligned with PLOs. It also helps them design better learning activities and assessment tools, track whether students are meeting learning outcomes and use that feedback to continuously improve their courses. All of this supports the School of Science's mission to keep raising the bar on teaching quality and curriculum development, staying adaptable and sustainable in the face of ever-changing educational demands.
