On September 22, 2026, the School of Science, University of Phayao, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tipwan Suppasat, project lead, held the first workshop on "Bee Biology and Hive Management Using Suitable Cavity Bee Box Equipment" at Ban Huay Mak Daeng, Village No. 3, Tha Hin Ngom Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province. The goal? Sharing knowledge and technology on Thai cavity bees (Apis cerana) that farmers can use in real life.
This workshop is part of the project "Expanding to Enhance Production Efficiency and Sustainable Farmer Income Development", contract number PRP6707030910, funded by the Agricultural Research Development Agency (Public Organization) under the Targeted Program plan: "20,000 Farming Households with 20% Increased Income Through Suitable, Modern Technology Within 2 Years (Year 2)."
The training focused on building knowledge about Thai bee biology, hive management, and proper use of bee boxes combined with hands-on practice so farmers can apply the tech to improve their beekeeping efficiency and boost their income. As part of the project, the team handed over 200 sets of bee boxes, box stands, and bee protection hats to 20 farmers from the Community Forest Cavity Bee Farming Group at Ban Huay Mak Daeng, Village No. 3, Tha Hin Ngom Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province.
Beyond just sharing the tech, this project is also about building a strong collaborative network between the university, researchers, farmers, communities, and other partners creating space for ongoing knowledge exchange, follow-up support, and continuous scaling of the technology. The goal is developing the area into the "Apis cerana Learning Hub" a knowledge base for Thai bees that connects research, teaching, technology transfer, career development, and biodiversity conservation, all while supporting sustainable community development.
