The University of Phayao (UP) has achieved an impressive position in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, ranking 8th in Thailand out of 61 universities nationwide and 109th globally among 1,745 universities worldwide. The University received a total score of 8,575 points, reflecting an increase of 125 points from the previous year’s score of 8,450.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings assess universities worldwide based on their commitment to sustainable development, using six key criteria. In the 2025 rankings, the University of Phayao achieved the following scores:
- Setting and Infrastructure – 1,225 points (unchanged from the previous year)
- Energy and Climate Change – 1,725 points (an increase from 1,675)
- Waste Management – 1,425 points (an increase from 1,350)
- Water Management – 887.5 points (an increase from 850)
- Transportation – 1,650 points (unchanged)
- Education and Research – 1,662.5 points (slightly down from 1,700)
These indicators align with the University’s Strategic Issue 5: the development of a modern, efficient, transparent, and good-governance management system, particularly Strategic Goal 5.4, which aims for the University to be recognized as a globally ranked green and environmentally friendly higher education institution (UI GreenMetric).
The 2025 ranking results clearly reflect the University of Phayao’s strong commitment to sustainability in all dimensions, including environmental stewardship, energy efficiency, waste and water management, green space development, and the promotion of sustainability-oriented activities at both community and international levels.
The University has demonstrated consistent progress across all assessment criteria, with particularly notable improvements in Energy and Climate Change, highlighting continuous efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. This achievement further reinforces the University of Phayao’s role as a leader in sustainable development, as the University remains committed to advancing its Green University initiatives and contributing positively to a sustainable future.
