On 22 September 2026, School of Engineering University of Phayao, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Apichat Buakla, Associate Dean for Administration and Special Affairs, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Erawin Thavorn, Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services, and Mr. Anukul Suriyaichai, Acting Head of the Operations Section, organized the “Laboratory Development Project towards ESPReL Certification” for laboratory personnel within the School.
The initiative aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge, understanding, and practical competencies in laboratory safety assessment and management. The programme was conducted at the Industrial Engineering Laboratory Building, School of Engineering, and the Central Research Laboratory, School of Medical Sciences, University of Phayao.
Ms. Patcharin Jaikhor, Scientist at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Phayao, served as the guest speaker and delivered a session entitled “Understanding ESPReL and the Role of Laboratory Safety Standards Assessors.” The session introduced the ESPReL safety standards and assessment criteria, with particular emphasis on key considerations for assessors. It was designed to foster a systematic understanding of the essential components, principles, and procedures involved in assessing laboratory safety standards.
The participants also engaged in a practical workshop entitled “Techniques for Laboratory Assessment in Accordance with ESPReL Standards” The workshop emphasized the practical application of assessment criteria to real-world laboratory settings, enabling participants to develop essential skills in observation, inspection, and evaluation of laboratory safety practices. These competencies are expected to contribute to more effective laboratory management systems and ensure greater alignment with established safety standards.
The implementation of this project reflects the School of Engineering, University of Phayao’s commitment to elevating laboratory standards, strengthening personnel competencies, and fostering a robust culture of safety in laboratory operations. It also underscores the School’s continued efforts to promote systematic and effective laboratory management in support of high-quality, safe, and sustainable teaching, research, and academic services.
